Dr. Marco Hefti received a grant from the Carver College of Medicine Iowa Aging Initiative. The two-year pilot grant in the amount of $150,000 is entitled “Developmental Insights into Tau-14-3-3 Interaction in Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias.” This grant builds on preliminary data from Dr. Hefti’s laboratory showing that, even though tau in the developing brain has changes similar to those seen in Alzheimer disease, there are key differences in how it interacts with the 14-3-3 family of proteins, which may help explain why the developing brain is protected from tau toxicity.
